                Kata so biasanya digunakan bersama dengan kata – kata seperti : I think, I believe, I hope, I’m afraid, I suppose sebagai jawaban ( menyatakan pendapat ) atau hanya sekedar suatu komentar.

                e.g ( contoh ) :

                1. Farida will come to the party, won’t she ?

                    Positive answer            : I think so.

                                Negative           : I don’t think so,  atau

                                                            I think not.

                2. Will she be back soon ?

                  Positive answer              : I hope so.

                                Negative              : I hope not.

                3. It’s going to rain. Yes, I think so.

                                                      No, I hope not.

  Perhatikan aturan – aturan di bawah ini :

Pendapat positif I think I suppose I hope I believe I’m afraid

Pendapat negatif I don’t think I don’t suppose I hope + verb negative I believe + verb negative I’m afraid + verb negative

Tanggapan positif I think so I suppose so I hope so I believe so I’m afraid so

Tanggapan negatif I don’t think so I don’t suppose so I hope not I believe not I’m afraid not
